Bhakti yoga

Picture
The most recognized form of Bhakti Yoga is Kirtan.  While all forms of music, singing, and dancing can be used to practice Union when done with total devotion... Really, everything we do can be seen as Bhakti practice if we are completely enthralled in the moment.  Kirtan is typically cited as Bhakti because it is generally performed with the express and conscious purpose of experiencing Unity.  I highly recommend seeking out a Kirtan group and learning the meanings of the chants.  It can be quite an enlightening process simply getting to know the Hindu deities and the stories behind them as they represent archetypes and aspects of our-self.  (click on the picture)

Regardless whether you cultivate a practice of chanting or are already consumed by your own favorite music or art-form,  the more you can devote your full attention, just for the sake of it's beauty and significance - really giving yourself up to the moment; The more you will experience the divine essence of the act and unity with all that surrounds you.  Click on the picture for examples of Kirtan on YouTube.
